Colonel Green wanted to make a visit to a Vietnamese military hospital on the outskirts of Saigon and he wanted to assure that at least 200 patients had a tiny radio gift.
I am not one who needs to know every scientific thing about my disease. I place a great amount of trust in my doctors. What I do want to know is how my pain is produced and what, if known, causes it. My theory is too much information is dangerous but just enough is helpful ammunition. I remember a gentleman in the pain clinic who was told by his surgeon that his back muscles snapped like a guitar string. He just could not get rid of that image and it caused him great pain. That sort of information I do not need.
I could not get out of the taxi and the driver got the doctor to come to the taxi and see me. He immediately diagnosed the problem as a ruptured appendix and said it would take too long to get to the hospital and that the hospital likely did not have a night doctor on duty…and likely did not have an empty bed “etc”.
What strikes me as ironic is the amount of time I have spent in my life at High School and College graduations, funerals, hasta karyolası, soccer games, family reunions, birthday parties, and heard some variation of the following statement “wow, it’s amazing to me how fast the time goes”. Do you see where I’m going with this? It’s a lifelong Irony! We are so caught up in the “need for speed” that we don’t take advantage of the priceless moments along the way.
I have taken four key courses (General Biology I, II; Organic Chemistry I, II) for medical school prerequisites. I am also very familiar with the medical school applications, and what the medical schools are like. But, I also know what it is like as a member of EMS. They may be vastly different on what they do, but at the end of the day, they all want the people to live better and be safe.
Although there is clearly some overlap (those who fear the number 13 may also fear Friday the 13th), there are people who only get anxious on Friday the 13th. That fear even has its own official name: Paraskevidekatriaphobia. The two things are separate phobias. I’d sure like to know how many people have both fears.
